Rutledge Update:

Cleaning continues at the school.  Things are looking shiny and new.  Several of the large areas need to be finished, and furniture needs to be moved back into rooms.  I love having the building clean and ready for another year!

We are working at completing staffing.  We will be hiring a special education teacher, an ELL teacher, and a PE teacher.  These are new positions.  The remainder of our staff remains stable, so we are in great shape.

Teachers have been in for a number of summer training sessions.  They have received training on technoloy programs, writing curriculum, reading strategies for struggling readers, and thinking skills.  More workshops are planned throughout the summer.

Reading postcards keep coming in.  PLEASE remind your students to complete their cards and mail them to me.  I am hoping to have a huge response to this initiative.

March News

March has begun as a busy month for us at Rutledge Hall.  We have been taking the ISAT tests this week. This takes a a great deal of time and patience as we work through the various tests at each grade level. For the most part, students are doing a good job.  We will not know the results for some time, but hope that students were able to show their mastery of learning. We will notify you when sores are available, and reports will be sent home.

I hope many of you were able to tune in and watch the Board of Education meeting on Tuesday.  The Board recognized the music program at Rutledge Hall under the direction of Mrs. Carlberg.  About 30 students performed the Rutledge Hall song playing guitars, ukeleles, and recorders.  The students did an outstanding job!!  We are fortunate to have Mrs. Carlberg as our music teacher.  Our students learn so much and enjoy music.  Catch the performance again on channel 6 when it is rebroadcast.

End of Quarter 2

The end of the Quarter is January 23.  Teachers are completing units ofinstruction and assessing students on standards.  You should be aware if there are any issues orconcerns.  Discuss academic areaswith your child.  What progress doyou see?  Is there any reason tocontact the teacher?  Are there anyspecific concerns that you may have? Report cards for Quarter 2 will be distributed on January 30.  Please watch for these cominghome.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year and welcome back!!  It has been wonderful to see all of the students back atschool.  They seem genuinely happyto be back and have made a smooth transition to work and the routine of theschool day.  I enjoy seeing themevery day, and missed their smiling faces over the break.

The months of January, February, and March are importantones.  This is fairly dedicated anduninterrupted instructional time as we continue to work through the curriculumexpectations at each grade levels. This is also important as we prepare for ISAT testing in March.  It is essential that students be atschool each and every day so that they benefit from classroom instruction andpractice.

Here are some ways that you can help as we start the newyear:

October 8, 2007

Dear Parents and Community Members,

It is hard to believe with this weather that it is mid October.  I hope that the long weekend was fun-filled and relaxing.  This may have been the last very warm weekend of the season.  We traveled up into Wisconsin.  I was hoping to see some color change, but it is still too early!!

This Thursday, please join us at Lincoln Hall for a Violence Prevention seminar.  7:00 p.m.  I am sure we can all take away some information that will help us be safer in our everyday lives.

We celebrate Fire Safety Week this week in our schools.  We will be making some reminders to our students about fire safety at school and at home.  Have you checked your family safety plan?  It may be a good time to do it.

Halloween is quickly approaching.  Here are a few reminders about the day:

July News

Dear Parents and Students,

It has been a fast 4 weeks since the end of school.  I hope this finds you enjoying the great weather and fun activities that summer usually brings.  I have seen many students as they come and go from summer school.  Everyone seems more relaxed and refreshed!!

It has been a busy few weeks here at Rutledge Hall.  The main office has been completely torn apart.  We will be re-structuring the office and the entryway to help make the building safer for our students and staff.  Look for these changes as the beginning of the school year.  Additionally, we have completed hiring for next school year.  I am pleased with the quality of staff that we have joining us.  Here are some of our new staff:
