We are all aware that this is a presidential election year, and with Election Day a month and a day away, things are getting very exciting. Under the goal of “Global Awareness”, the pullout students have begun a month-long unit of study on the election. They will learn about the process, the vocabulary, the candidates, and the issues. The students will also be participating in a presidential race of their own: a scavenger hunt to see who can earn the most points for our election unit. How can a student earn points? A few examples include:
-Bring in a picture of a major party presidential candidate. (1 point)
-Bring in a political cartoon about the presidential race. (2 points)
-Make a crossword puzzle using the election vocabulary, minimum of ten words. (15 points)
-Write a poem/song about the election. It could be about the issues, the vocabulary, the candidates, etc. (20 points)
-Watch a debate and write a one-page paper explaining the candidates’ views on the major points covered. (25 points)
-Present an Issue speech to the class. (2-3 minutes long) (30 points)
Who will learn the most and earn the most? We’ll find out on November 4, the race end date for the presidential candidates and the students of Room 41!
