Rainey Review 3/9/10

Reading: Students read The Last Dragon and completed an organizer on drawing conclusions. We will also work on the skill of compare and contrast.

Writing: Students did a great job on their zoo stories. We are taking a break from narrative writing to practice using verbs in tongue twisters and poems.

Math: My group is working on adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators.

ISAT Testing: Students did a great job staying quiet and concentrating on their tests during ISAT week. I know everyone is glad to have them over with and behind us…until next year!

Writing: Students completed the writing process this week with their zoo stories. They spent Thursday editing with a peer and revising their stories. The final copy is due on Monday.

Reading: This week students worked in small groups to practice identifying problems and solutions in leveled reading books.

Writing: Students have been working on writing character-problem-solution narratives. Next week, they will peer edit and make revisions to their stories.

Reading: Students identified problems and solutions in Marven of the Great North Woods. Next week, they will practice this skill in guided reading groups.

Writing: After reading aloud A Night at the Zoo, students brainstormed their own ideas for problems that could occur at the zoo. They completed a graphic organizer and have started writing a character- problem- solution narrative.
