Dear Parents,

I can't believe that in a little more than two weeks it will be Spring Break. Allow me to give you a preview of what we will be studying until then.

We will be completing Unit 3, which concentrates on multiplication and division, in Accelerated Math. We will also be introduced to Algebra. Our Reading class will soon begin Theme 5 entitled Voyagers. In this unit students will be asked to make inferences about things the author has not directly stated.

Dear Parents,

ISATs are going great in Room 3. We test in the morning so that leaves plenty of time in the afternoon for specials, COW, handwriting, and English verb study. We wrote our final expository on Tuesday. This essay will be graded according to a rubric your child has had since the Fall. ISAT writing will be done Friday morning.

We have also started Chapter 7 in Social Studies. On Tuesday we learned a lot about new industries in the late 1800s. We discussed how transportation and manufacturing helped many other Illinois industries grow.

Dear Parents,

Next week 3rd graders will be taking ISATs. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday we will be taking reading and math tests. Friday we will be taking the writing test. We have spent many hours preparing the students for these tests.
What can you do?
Discuss ISAT materials that come home with your student.
Make sure that your child gets a good night's sleep and a good breakfast.
Tell your child to be calm and don't worry about the test. Tell them they have nothing to worry about, because they have worked so hard the last few weeks.

Dear Parents,

Our accelerated math students find themselves in Unit 2 of the fourth grade book. Unit One was a review of Geometry and the students did well on their first test. Unit 2 examines different uses and equivalent names of numbers and reviews the base-ten place-value-system. The unit also explores data collection, organization, display, and analysis. Finally, the students will review procedures for addition and subtraction of multidigit numbers. As always, students should be studying and reviewing concepts every night.

Dear Parents,

This week the children had fun at the "Science Guy" program. It was a great way to really see the simple machines in action. Thank you to Ms. Quilici for arranging it and a BIG thank you to the PTA for paying for it. The kids loved it and are still talking about it. Our force and motion test is this Friday. Every student should be studying a lot.
