In Intervention Groups students are working to improve their automaticity, accuracy, and prosody while reading.  Improving in these areas will help students with their comprehension.

Having the ability to automatically read words, and recall word parts, makes reading easier and understandable.  Students who have good automaticity do not need to spend their reading energy trying to decode each word.  They are better able to make meaning from text.  That is the number one goal!

What a great week!  Students did a lot of team building activities to learn and review concepts taught in Horizons.  Everyone is doing a great job on their paired oral reading practice.  Please continue to remind your child that they need to practice reading daily.  Oral reading practice should be done nightly for at least 20 minutes.

New Intervention groups start this week.  We are excited for the students who are transitioning out of the program.  These students will need to continue reading orally for 20 minutes each night.  They will also be progress monitored weekly to make sure that they are doing okay without extra support.

We are also excited to see many new faces in our program.  The students who have been in groups are reviewing concepts as they teach their new classmates about the many new vocabulary words and concepts they have learned this year!

Students in the Intervention Program meet for 30 minutes each day.  Intervention groups are small in size with no more than eight students.  The core curriculum for the program is Horizons.  Students work on vocabulary building, phonemic awareness, decoding, comprehension, and fluency.  If you have any questions about the Intervention Program please call me at (847)745-3827.
