Time Machines

We are reading a story about two boys who enter a time machine.  It was interesting to hear the students thoughts on whether they would like to go forward or backward in time and their reasons for their choice.  The two boys in the story are very different from each other.  One is very adventurous and one is very cautious.  We compared each of the boy's personalities to ours.

Australia

We read a story about some animals in Australia and learned a lot about kangaroos.  The story was so interesting that we did our own mini research project on Australia.  The students researched some other Australian animals (including the ten deadliest) and found out some other important Australian facts.  We presented our reports to some 5th grade classes.  The students did a great, professional presentation.

Third Quarter Ends!

I hope everyone had a restful and fun spring break.  Our third quarter ended on Wednesday, April 7th.  This school year is going by quickly.  I am so pleased with the progress my students have shown, and they will continue to be challenged throughout the fourth quarter.  My reading group has begun reading a story about kangaroos.  Did you know that a group of kangaroos is called a mob?  Ask your child about this and about other interesting facts they have learned about kangaroos.

Portfolio Night

It was wonderful to see so many parents at Portfolio Night.  I hope you enjoyed going over all of your child’s work.  My reading group really enjoyed reading "Honus and Me."  Everyone did well on the activities assigned throughout the book.
I hope everyone has a fun and relaxing spring break.  School resumes on Monday, April 5th.  The third quarter ends on April 7th.

Andrew the Bank Teller vs Andrew the Football Player

My students have really been enjoying the story we are reading in our reading class.  It is a fictional story about a man named Andrew that obtained super strength from an incident with an electromagnet.  We are almost finished with the story, and we have very different predictions as to how the story will end.  Ask your child to summarize the story for you and tell you his prediction.
