Andrew the Bank Teller vs Andrew the Football Player

My students have really been enjoying the story we are reading in our reading class.  It is a fictional story about a man named Andrew that obtained super strength from an incident with an electromagnet.  We are almost finished with the story, and we have very different predictions as to how the story will end.  Ask your child to summarize the story for you and tell you his prediction.

ISAT Testing

My students worked very hard this week during the ISAT Tests. The third graders took three sessions of reading tests, three sessions of math tests, and one testing session of writing. The fourth graders took three sessions of reading tests, three sessions of math tests, and had two testing sessions of science. Everyone put forth their best effort.  I am very proud of their tenacity when completing the tests.  I hope they all have a fun and relaxing weekend-they deserve it!

Cinderella

The students really enjoyed all of the different versions of the Cinderella story that we read in class.  They each chose one story to use to complete a Venn Diagram by comparing this story to the traditional Cinderella story.  Then they worked together to create their own Cinderella story.  They are almost finished with the final draft.  It is a very creative story.  Look for a copy of this story to come home next week.

ISAT Prep

The ISAT tests will be given starting the week of March 2nd.  Although our everyday instruction targets many of the skills that my students will see on the ISAT, we have been working on some practice tests.  This gives the students a feel for what the tests will look like and practice with completing tests with time constraints.  I'm hoping this will reduce any stress that they may have concerning these tests.  My reading group will be testing in a small group setting.

Compare and Contrast

This quarter we are working on comparing and contrasting text.  We will be reading many different versions of the Cinderella story and comparing them.  We will also be writing our own version of the story.  In addition, we are  targeting some test taking strategies.  This should help with classroom assessments as well as standardized tests.
