In science class, we are studying force and motion. The students are enjoying building cars and doing experiments with them. They have considered what happens to their vehicle's velocity when its load is increased or when it is pulled by more weight (in the form of metal washers). We have discussed gravity, air pressure, friction, net force, and other concepts.
These past few weeks, the students worked on their African American biography projects. The students researched the lives of many interesting persons, including George Washington Carver, Louis Armstrong, Malcolm X, Wilma Rudolph, and Oprah Winfrey. Their projects included detailed essays and colorful posterboards. It was a job well done.
Parents: your child will soon be bringing home a form that asks you to schedule a time to see your child's work during PORTFOLIO NIGHT on March 22. Also, if you would like to schedule a parent-teacher conference on March 24, please contact me. Thanks.
This past week our reading group read The Bicentennial Gift. It is the story of school children who make a mural for their town's bicentennial celebration. Mentioned in the story is Mexican muralist Diego Rivera. We learned about Rivera's many famous murals.
