Parent Conference/Portfolio Nights

As conference/portfolio nights approach, it is a good time to think about what information you would like to gain from the time you have, and also what information you would like to share.  Remember that education is teamwork, and we need to work together to insure success for our students.  Here are some questions that you may want to ask:

Everyday Writing

We often find that students are not comfortable with writing, and that their skills are not as strong as we might like them to be.  This may be due to the fact that students do not write as much outside of the school setting as they used to.  We do a lot of structured writing in school, but we often do not have as much time for creative writing during the school day.  All of these reasons could account for why students do not write as much, and why their skills may not be as strong as we would like.  Perhaps we can take a look at ways to enhance writing outside of the school setting- things

Recycling

I am often looking for ways to make a difference in the recycling effort.  This year, the PTA is becoming more active in awareness and activities to promote "green" initiatives in our schools.  The School Board is also committed to finding ways that we as a school can become more earth friendly.  Here are a few ways that each of us can make a difference every day.  Give one or all of them a try and see how good it feels!!!

Standardized Testing

As most of you are aware, the state requires that all students participate in state testing to see if they are meeting state standards.  These tests, known as the ISAT tests, are given in the first weeks of March.  This year, the testing window is March 2- 12.  We want our students to do their best, and we do some preparation at school to make sure that they are familiar with the test format, testing procedures, and time restrictions.  We also want students to feel comfortable during the testing, and not worry too much as to affect their performance on the tests.

Casimir Pulaski Day Fun!!

Art glass done Wright on Casimir Pulaski Day.

The Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust presents Art Glass Done Wright, a tour and art glass workshop for children ages 7-10 and their parents. After a tour of the Robie House focusing on Wright's art glass designs, children will be guided in creating their own art glass designs using tracing paper, markers, colored pencils, construction paper, and examples of Wright's art glass designs.
