Dear Parents,

There are only 3 WEEKS left before the end of the quarter!  Time is really flying by!  Please be sure to talk with your child about his/her book report.  These book reports are due on Halloween, Friday, October 31st!  With only 20 days left to complete the report your child should already have chosen a book and began reading.  Remember, although it is not a requirement, I would adivse your child to have notes ready when presenting the book he/she read.  This year I really focus on the children's public speaking skills.  I really encourage eye contact and a nice pleasent voice when presenting.

We are beginning nouns next week.  This work is done daily in class and the students will be given 4 quizzes throughout the unit.

Reminder, WE DO HAVE SCHOOL Monday.

Have a great weekend,

Mary Noonan

We have had a very busy first week of school in Room 1! The children have gotten into the routine and we are ready to work!

Snacks in the classroom have been discussed as a class and I informed the children that they are allowed to bring in ONE snack every day. These snacks must be HEALTHY and NuTRITIOUS! Examples I gave to the children were: fruit, vegetables, pretzles, granola bars, goldfish, and yogurt. Foods that will not be allowed as a snack in the classroom are: any type of chips, cookies, pop, and candy.

Please work with your child and his or her addition and subtraction facts; it is very, very important that he or she is fluent.

Have a great long weekend!

Happy New Year! I hope you and your family enjoyed winter break! The children came back ready and eager to learn!

Second quarter is quickly coming to an end and we have a lot of work to do!

Starting today, Friday January 11, 2008 we will begin our unit on multiplication. Each week we will focus on one fact. We do not begin the multiplication unit until next chapter but I feel it is important to start as soon as possible to achieve mastery. I encourage you to study with your child every night! (Students should be in the routine because they should be studying their addition and subtraction facts nightly.)  I cannot stress enough how important it is to memorize the facts. The best way to accomplish this is with flash cards. Learning the facts through rote memorization ( i.e. memorization by repition) is helpful, but your child should know that, for example, 3 x 7 = 21 without going through the entire 3's times table.
