Fall into Books!

We've had a busy few weeks in library class. The students have reviewed their catalog search techniques and are anticipating the start of our Rebecca Caudill book talks! Third graders were introduced to call numbers and how to locate them on the shelves. They will be introduced to the library catalog soon and will then begin a read aloud from one of this years Monarch Award nominees! We've also been busy presenting genre book talks to Mr. Almer's, Mrs. Taliya's, and Ms. Noonan's reading groups! We started podcasting for the Arthropod Unit with Mrs. Doyle and Mrs Jaglinski is planning some fun library activities for the week of Halloween. Stay tuned!

Library Skills at Work!

The students have been reviewing how to look up books using a basic Title - Author - Subject search on the Library Catalog. They have reviewed call numbers and how to access them on the shelf. Remember that the library catalog is available from home using the Library Catalog link on this blog under Recommended Links. Students in 4th and 5th grade will be introduced to the Rebecca Caudill nominees next week. Students in 3rd grade will continue to learn how to use the Rutledge Library and will be introduced to search techniques on the catalog.

Back to Books!

Welcome back to the library blog! I'm looking forward to hearing about all the books that were read this summer. Check out the Library Forum Mrs. Tokarski's Bookshelf to see what I read and will be recommending to students this school year. The Library Forum will be updated regularly with book recommendations. Our first week of library class starts after Labor Day with a power point library orientation and overview of the collection. Students will begin library skills and catalog techniques the following week along with book checkout. Please check back weekly to see what we've been up to!!
