FIELD TRIP - MONDAY, DECEMBER 1
We will be going on our field trip to the Field Museum on the Monday that we return from Thanksgiving Break. Your child will need to bring money to buy food at the McDonalds located at the museum. While McDonalds is not the ideal lunch scenario, it was the only choice that worked well given the time constraints of this field trip. There are a few nutritious choices on McDonalds’ menu, I’m told.
DRESSING FOR WINTER
We will go outside most days for recess during the winter. It is important that your children have coats, hats, and gloves. I have seen too many kids wearing only a sweatshirt which they wear inside and outside.

We have been working with our second grade buddies the past month doing research on insects. We will now take this information and get it published in a book. Publishing is an important part in the writing process. Your child will need permission to be included in the book. You also have an opportunity to purchase a copy of this hard back book, if you are interested. The total cost for the book will be $17.90. If you are interested in purchasing a book, make a check out to Strudentreasures Publishing and return the order form to me by next Thursday, November 13. I will have a copy of last year's book Conference Night so you can see what it will look like. If you have any questions, you may ask me at Conference Night. All forms are due by November 13.

No School tomorrow, Tuesday, November 4, due to Election Day. We have spent some time talking about the Presidential Election and the Electoral College. They may actually enjoy watching some of the early election returns in the evening and this will help them understand the Electoral College more clearly.
There is also no school next Tuesday, November 11, in commemoration of Veterans' Day.Â
Wednesday, November 5, your child will receive his/her first report card. We will talk about this more next week during Parent-Teacher Conferences. Your child will be bringing home a reminder about conferences on Wednesday. But just a few notes to clarify grades. . . . .

Weaving Cloth
By:Nico, Katrina, and Kristen
In the 1830’s girls would weave cloth. The girls would make thread out of cotton or wool from sheep. They would also make flax into linen. The girls would turn the thread into cloth and then make dresses, hats, scarves, rugs and blankets. To make all this material you needed to put cloth in and out of the loom. The loom was an instrument that was used to weave cloth.

WALK-TO-SCHOOL
Your child should have brought home a permission slip for our annual Walk-To-School day on Wednesday, October 8. If your child rides a bus, the bus will drop your child off at Proesel Park. If your child normally walks to school, he/she can walk to Proesel Park or you can drop him/her off at the park. There will be a brief ceremony at the park and then the entire school will walk to school. If you choose for your child not to participate, you should drop your child off at school at 8:00. There will be adult supervisors at school until your child's class returns. Of course, you are always welcome to walk with us.
